END OF LIFE SERVICES

At Southern Oaks, we know that it is very important to allow your pet to pass with compassion and dignity. Being in your own home with your loved ones and pets can make this process slightly easier. Dr. Carolina has advanced training for in home euthanasia through CAETA (Companion Animal Euthanasia Training Academy) and can help to guide you through the process.

What to Expect:

  • Prepare a place where you and your pet will be the most comfortable. This can be where their bed is in their favorite room, outside in a favorite place or on your bed or couch with you.

  • If they are interested, keep their favorite snacks or even food they’ve always wanted and never have been able to have close by for them to enjoy through the process.
  • Our team will administer a sedative in the form of an injection similar to receiving a vaccination that will allow your pet to fall asleep peacefully with you

  • Once they are asleep, a potty pad will be placed under them and a butterfly catheter will be placed to administer the final injection.

  • This process is centered around you and your pet to take all the time that you need. We can step out at any time while they are getting sleepy or after they have passed to give you the privacy and time that you need.

  • After your pet has passed, we will prepare memorial keepsakes for you such as a clay paw print and lock of hair if you choose. Your pet will be snuggled into some comfy blankets and placed on a stretcher or in a basket for safe transport to the cremation facility if elected.

  • There are many different choices for aftercare. You can choose to bury your pet on your own or we can transport to a crematory facility where communal (group) cremation or private cremation can be performed. Private cremation includes ashes being returned to you in your choice of urn but group cremation does not include any ashes being returned. They will be spread on your behalf.
