Cold laser therapy is the use of light waves at a specific wavelength to cause alteration of the cells and tissue within the body. This is called photobiomodulation. Red light between the wavelengths of 600-1000 nm is typically used. This light is absorbed by the cells to promote repair and growth which speeds up the healing process. This treatment modality also increases blood flow to the affected area, relaxes muscles, decreases inflammation and releases endorphins. Many conditions benefit from this treatment such as but not limited to:
Pets with kidney or liver disease who cannot take medications or pets that are hard to administer medication to are great candidates for cold laser therapy. Cold laser therapy also works great in conjunction with acupuncture to maximize pain relief and cell stimulation. Sessions for cold laser therapy typically last around 20-30 minutes and the amount and/or frequency needed depends on your pet’s condition.
